Coastal areas are characterized by complex patterns of interaction between natural and human ecosystems. In the EU Water Framework Directive an integrated approach is adopted and environmental management is incorporated in socio-economic and physical development planning. Participation of citizens is foreseen in all stages of conception, implementation and amendment of the management plans of coastal areas. A high level of environmental literacy adapted to regional, national and international level is a prerequisite for active citizenship. Cooperation between educational institutes of different European countries is recommended as several issues are trans-boundary and of global interest.

Through this project we are going to apply life long learning methods to environmental education.
