School Biology Centre “NaturErlebnisPark”
The School Biology Centre “NaturErlebnisPark“ supports the Science Education in early childhood and in schools. As a non formal institution we work on different levels of the educational system. We develop, prove and research Science activities. The experience and information we get from our evaluation and research stimulate the scientific discourse within our national and international partnerships and will serve as a guide for our further developments in Science Education.
The “School Biology Centre – NaturErlebnisPark” was established in 1996. It is a registered association and is supported by regional authorities. Our main activities include the support of science education in schools, the basic and advanced training for teachers and unemployed people as well the development and applied research in the field of pedagogy, didactics and science. We also have cooperations with many institutions working in similar fields and methods such as pedagogical universities, universities and other research institutions.
The “School Biology Centre – NaturErlebnisPark” has a building with lecture rooms and an adjacent public park, with an area of about 5 ha and was designed for our educational activities. We have permanent and temporary exhibits which are adapted to a specific learning environment. We offer programmes which are adapted to the curriculum and to the age of the students like “Exploring Science with Fridolin”, “Nature Expedition”, “Study laboratories”.
Our staff represents a mixed interdisciplinary team of scientists and educationalists who have a lot of practical experience in designing inquiry based learning and situated learning settings.
In order to improve our educational effectiveness and quality assurance of our institution we focus mainly on periodical evaluation and research. For about ten years we have had cooperations with prominent research institutions which run research projects about our structure and function in networks, as well as carry out evaluation about our educational activities. In this way we gather information about external perspectives and internal factors to develop further approaches, implementations and partnerships in different contexts.
